Chloe’s Adventure Diaries: Girl’s Wollongong Getaway!
So why are you reading this post? Well… I’m on holiday in Wollongong and I wanted to share my experience with you.
This week, I’m staying in Wollongong for a holiday at Adina wollongong in an accessible unit and I’m quite impressed with the amenities and would recommend it.
Exploring the streets of Wollongong!
Wollongong so far has been good, in that the streets have been accessible and easy to navigate. I’m blessed to have an electric chair and have been rolling around in style.
I have been in the spa this morning and have been to the markets and exploring. The community presents here is good to see as I saw a market stall giving out a free sausage sizzle for men’s mental health. The shopping center is huge and if you’re a shopper, I would recommend checking it out.
After never being in a spa before, I’m spa addicted. So I thought I’d better leave the hotel. The Adina Apartments are very close to the beach so I’m quite impressed. However, navigating my way there was quite difficult due to google maps taking us the wrong way. We were able to ask locals who were very helpful in telling us the right way and where to find the wheelchair access. I was beyond impressed with the paths and how close I was able to get down to the beach, considering the situation of winging it.
We stopped at Parra Reef where the boats were in the morning and we also got some chicken tenders from Chicko’s for a taste test experience, yummy.
Time for a change!
I took the opportunity while being in Wollongong to do something different and get out of my comfort zone. Thanks to one of my best support workers, Millie. She always says the sky’s the limit and I’m always surprised when she says yes to my requests.. so I was able to make my dream come true. With this freedom of choice, I dyed my hair purple. I’ve always wanted to do this and just thought new place, new look.
Pub dinner!
On Saturday night, we hit the town and went to a pub called The Illawarra Hotel, it was amazing. It had good food and the Google review didn’t lie. It was a vibrant, modern venue with a courtyard, for themed party nights, DJs playing retro hits and there was actually live music.
We had fish and chips for dinner and I also got an alcoholic drink called lemon lime and bitters and also a vodka redbull. I also had a cheeky slap on the pokies, but sadly didn’t win.
Hitting the waves
Today, we went to north Wollongong beach and hired a beach wheelchair to go down onto the water. The waves rolled in and I got a couple of splashes, was totally worth it. The volunteer life saver that I met was really nice and friendly and helped me down onto the water. I am excited to definitely come back again soon.
For people looking for access to hire a beach wheelchair like this the council offers free hire via their website.
Does NDIS pay for this? Sounds like a great getaway.
