How modern connections can enhance your life if you have a disability… The ongoing story of Victorian born AAA play!
Connections… As we are entering this new decade, the term connections is expanding to include all types of definitions. Similar to other areas, such as online dating and searching for short term accommodation, many of these connections have been life changing to so many individuals within the disability community, as they primarily focus on enhancing our abilities to grow and our quality of life.
Victorian sport and recreational activity platform, ‘AAA Play’ (Access for All Abilities Play), is a perfect example of how these connections, along with improvements in technology, are able to empower people with disabilities in developing their independence, individuality and their involvement in the mainstream community. The AAA Play platform is a government funded initiative that is attached to Reclink Australia, which is an evolving program dedicated to enhancing sporting opportunities for the Australian public. The platform was founded in 2014 and was designed to give people who have disabilities greater access to, and have more information about, accessible sport and recreation activities in their local area. Even though the platform is only in Victoria at the moment it will hopefully become a nationwide platform soon.
The platform, which is accessed via AAA Play’s website aaavic.org.au is very simple and practical to use and enables the user to:
• Obtain the information and contact details of a network of state sporting associations, active community clubs, local governments and disability-specific sport and recreation providers
• Find information about the accessible features available at Leisure Centres includes phone numbers, addresses of venues and website links.

Due to this success, the team at AAA Play really hopes that the platform will be rolling out nationwide very shortly, so that many more people around the country can experience this amount of community inclusion.
